Organisations already face challenges when dealing with Access, Portability and Right to be Forgotten Requests due to inefficient, manual, time consuming and costly processes.

The lack of robust systems leaves organisations vulnerable to missing relevant information or accidentally disclosing personal information (which constitutes a data breach). The challenges will only get worse as the EU GDPR affords more rights to the data subject over and above the DPA due to the following:

  • Increased volume – Current £10 fee per request is being removed opening the flood gates to more requests
  • Reduced timeframes – Current disclosure deadline of 40 days is being reduced to 30 days
  • Increased complexity – Under DPA the right to be forgotten is limited to cases where processing causes substantial damage or distress. Under GDPR this threshold is removed.
  • Right of Portability – If individuals requests, you must transmit their data directly to another organisation if this is technically feasible within 1 month.

Our half day event was designed for anyone facing the increased challenges that GDPR will bring for access, portability and right to be forgotten requests and pending challenges, showing ways in which you can reduce the time and money it takes to deal with requests.

Keynote speaker – Ardi Kolah

The keynote speaker at our GDPR event was Ardi Kolah, who is an authority on all things GDPR related and an Executive Fellow and Programme Co-Director of Henley Business School’s GDPR Transition Programme.

Ardi is recognised by FT Europe as one of the leading data protection practitioners in Europe, and has provided advice to the Scottish Government, the Shadow Minister for the Digital Economy and senior Civil Servants on the impact of the GDPR. He acts for a number of multi-national organisations in financial services, banking, automotive, technology and infrastructure. He gave a very thought provoking talk on many aspects of GDPR and what this new regulation will mean.
