Key Highlights 2023 in Cyber

It has been a year full of ups and downs for cyber security. We have seen a lot from TikTok to the rise of ChatGPT and changes in cyber security threats.

So, let’s reflect on something that has happened recently and should still be on your mind…

The S-COM Cyber Security Conference, held on November 9, 2023, at the cyberQuarter, Abertay University in Scotland, was extraordinary. This free-to-attend conference marked the official opening of Core to Cloud’s Scottish office. It attracted various participants from various industries, regardless of their level of experience in cybersecurity.

The conference offered a deep dive into the hidden realms of the dark web, providing attendees with a complimentary 10-minute exploration of Core to Cloud’s enterprise-grade cyber threat intelligence platform. This unique opportunity allowed participants to uncover alarming truths about their businesses and the dark web.

Highlights of the event included industry guest speakers, customer panels, and vendor thought leadership discussions alongside exhibition stands featuring live demos and crisis simulators. Attendees had the exclusive chance to talk with our CTO and CEO about the launch of new services.

The event emphasised the importance of building a diverse community in the cybersecurity field, with pathways for people from various backgrounds to enter the industry. The conference addressed critical topics such as risk mitigation, incident response/recovery, proactive security measures, training, awareness, compliance, regulations, and cost efficiency.

The S-COM Cyber Security Conference in Scotland was not just an event but a milestone in cybersecurity awareness and education, fostering connections and empowering individuals and businesses to understand better and tackle cybersecurity challenges.

What else has been noteworthy this year?

TikTok and ChatGPT have significantly impacted the cybersecurity landscape, each in distinct ways. As a social media platform, TikTok has raised concerns about data privacy and the potential misuse of personal information. Its widespread popularity has necessitated stricter data protection measures and raised awareness about user consent and data security in social media.

On the other hand, ChatGPT represents the advancements in AI technology, demonstrating both the potential benefits and risks associated with AI in cybersecurity. While it offers new tools for automating security protocols and analysing threats, it also poses challenges in creating sophisticated phishing attacks or generating malicious code. Together, TikTok and ChatGPT highlight the evolving nature of cyber threats and the increasing complexity of maintaining digital security in an age dominated by social media and AI technology.
