Why more protection isn’t always better 😉

Oi, you. Mind out of the gutter. This is a serious matter….

At Core to Cloud, we have worked with many organisations and sectors that have been led to believe that more protection is better in terms of their cyber security. And while that may be the case in some instances that additional layers protect you from unwanted outcomes, the simpler your cyber security processes, and protocols the more prepared and protected you will be.

What is cyber security?

Cybersecurity, in its simplest terms, refers to the protection of internet-connected systems, including hardware, software, and data, from attack, damage, or unauthorised access. It is the practice of protecting these systems from threats that could potentially emerge within your IT infrastructure.

The goal of cybersecurity and a goal of Core to Cloud is to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive information and prevent disruptions to organisations and individuals that rely on these systems. With the growing reliance on technology and the increasing number of cyber threats, cybersecurity is a critical aspect of modern life, and our businesses rely on these systems too.

Do we really need cyber security protection?

Yes, we need cybersecurity. In today’s digital age, internet-connected systems, and the sensitive information they contain are vulnerable to cyber threats, such as hacking, malware, and phishing.

We all need to be aware of the potential for threats or breaches that could happen within an organisation if cyber security is not kept at the forefront of key decision-makers’ agendas. It needs to be reviewed, understood, and embedded within all business infrastructures. Everyone should understand their role and responsibility within cyber security and how to respond if something was to occur.

We need to take our heads out of the sand and tackle this ever-growing issue head-on and we have got your back.

How do you choose a cyber security provider?

At the Core of it, you need a provider that understands your sector and can support your infrastructure. You need to understand what each vendor can provide you with and discuss and see how those fit into your organisation.

You really need to know what you need, what the layout of your It landscape is, and not be afraid to ask the tough questions and really get to know what options you have. At Core to Cloud, we have vetted many different providers and have selected those that are really making waves within the cyber security sector. We have already asked those questions, seen the platforms in action and know what each option does down to the finest details, so don’t be afraid to reach out and ask us for advice (Contact Us)

Why more protection isn’t always better?

The threats that can appear within your IT processes and landscape are worrying, scary in fact. So, it makes sense to take the approach to have as much security as possible, that covers everything and anything.

Adding layers and layers of software and platforms must mean that you are protected, right?

Sadly not, different cyber security providers give different outputs or notifications, and some platforms don’t integrate with others. Meaning that this approach is timely, non-transparent and can cause severe alert fatigue (giving you more anxiety than that 5th cup of coffee). Adding more and more software into your systems can also leave them slow and overworked, causing disruption to your organisation daily.

Now we aren’t saying that you can’t have more than one solution that works in harmony with your other security support processes. However, it is important to properly integrate and manage multiple security solutions to ensure they are working effectively together and not creating conflicts or security gaps. As we said earlier, overlapping or conflicting security solutions can lead to inefficiencies, decreased effectiveness, and even increased risk. It is important to assess and understand the security needs of the system and to carefully plan and implement a comprehensive, integrated security strategy.

How can we help?

We understand our security solutions down to the most granular of detail and with our team, we can support you to assess and understand what you have and what you need. We have on many occasions also lowered the cost spent on various cyber security solutions that were implemented but not necessary.

Simple, cost-effective, and fit for purpose are the goals here. To ensure that you have full transparency of your IT landscape and can quickly react to any issues that pop up and try to ruin your day.
