Bursting The AI Bubble

AI Technology We Trust

Is Artificial Intelligence the way forward?

We certainly think so, AI is where cyber security is heading. To a lot of people artificial intelligence is a scary topic that brings on a sense of dread - we can blame Will Smith and iRobot for that. However AI should be thought of as a tool to help enhance your productivity, making your jobs more seamless. AI technology can detect and respond to cyber threats far quicker than an human possibly could. AI can also help highlight and mitigate any vulnerabilities within your network and systems.

Tech we love that uses AI (Artificial Intelligence)

Vectra is an AI-powered threat detection and response platform that helps organisations detect and respond to cyber attacks in real time.

SentinelOne is an AI-powered cybersecurity platform that offers endpoint protection, threat intelligence, and response automation.

Pentera is a platform that offers automated security testing to identify vulnerabilities in an organisation's network and provides recommendations to mitigate those risks.

Abnormal is an email cybersecurity platform that uses machine learning and behavioural analysis to protect against advanced email attacks, identify compromised external accounts, and prevent internal account takeover.

Lacework is a cloud security platform that uses machine learning to detect and prevent security threats in cloud environments.

So why does artificial intelligence and cybersecurity go hand in hand?

  • AI is used to analyse vast amounts of data in order to identify patterns and threats that would be difficult or impossible for humans to detect.
  • AI has the ability to learn and adapt over time, making it more effective and efficient at detecting and responding to new threats.
  • AI can be automated, many of the tasks that are currently done by human security analysts can now be done with AI. This creates more time for those analysts to focus on more complex and strategic work.

What are the challenges with AI?

You are correct that AI is not a silver bullet for cyber security. While AI can certainly enhance security measures in many ways, it is not a foolproof solution on its own.

One of the main challenges with AI and cyber security is that AI is only as good as the data it is trained on. If the data is biased, incomplete, or inaccurate, then the AI system may not be able to detect certain types of cyber attacks or may generate false positives, which can lead to wasted time and resources.

Another challenge is that cyber attackers are constantly evolving their tactics and techniques, and AI systems may not be able to keep up with these changes as quickly as human experts can. AI systems can certainly help with automated detection and response to known threats, but they may not be as effective in identifying novel or sophisticated attacks that have not been seen before.

Furthermore, there is always the risk of AI being used by cyber attackers to automate their attacks and bypass security measures. As AI technology becomes more widely available, it is possible that cyber attackers could use AI to launch more effective and efficient attacks.

Overall, while AI can certainly be a valuable tool in the fight against cyber threats, it should be used in conjunction with other security measures and best practices, such as regular security audits, employee training, and strong encryption protocols.
